Read, Read, Read!
Homework is to read at leat 20 minutes each night. This 20 minutes can be with you (like before bed,) to a younger sibling, or by themselves. If you could help them fill out the reading log that will be clipped into their planners, that would be helpful, as we are going to be working with them to keep a log of all the books they/we read this year. This log will be used during reading time to analyze their reading lives, and to set new goals as they reach the ones they have previously made.
You have also seen "Ask me about..." statements in their planners. Please take the time to ask your child about what they did! You will get some interesting stories :)

Math facts
Entering 4th grade students should be solid with their addition and subtraction facts. They should also be pretty well solid with their multiplication facts up to 10.
Spelling
We are going to use the Words Their Way spelling program this year. Each Thursday (Starting September 7th) the kids will be doing a spelling sort with me during Word Work. This will allow us to work on different spelling patterns. They will then get a list of the words they need to study for the week. They will need to study these words with you, or on Spelling City, until the next Wednesday when they will take a spelling test. Sorting on Thursday and taking spelling tests on Wednesdays gives the children more time to study their words and be prepared for the test. We will also be working on different activities in class to help them prepare.
Planners
I will be checking students' planners for parent signatures/notes. Planners are used to write in their Specials, Special Days, Topics that we are working on in class, as well as any Homework Assignments. There will also be an AMA (or Ask Me About.) AMA is so that you will have a specific thing to ask your child about that happened at school each day. I do this to help prevent the ‘nothing’ answer parents inevitably get 😊.
Homework (only if not completed in class) will be found in the planner. If your child does have something to do, I will most likely shoot you an email to let you know as this won't often be the case. (At least hopefully!)
Email
Email - [email protected] is probably the easiest and best way to contact me. I am at school by 8:15 am each day and stay until 3:45 pm if you would like to call, 345-6471 ext. 226. I also check my e-mail each evening from home, so please don't hesitate to contact me as soon as your child has an issue so we can work together to make this a super year for your child.
Lunch Money
Lunch money - please put all money/checks in an envelope or baggie and label with name and amount. Thanks.
Please don't forget that you can also load money onto your child's account by using the following website: https://www.myschoolbucks.com/ver2/login/getmain?requestAction=home

Wednesday Folder
I will be checking on Thursdays for returned Wednesday folders. I collect the folders and keep them until the next week.
Please help by asking to see the planner and the Wednesday folder. Sometimes it helps having a specific place for your child to put the folder and planner.

ClassTag
ClassTag is a communication app that I use. The app allows me to share videos and pictures about what is happening in the classroom during the day. It also allows another way to get ahold of me. Please check it out! I post to it often.
ClassTag also allows me to set up volunteers, request supplies, and set up conferences.
